Mass recall of hummus due to salmonella!

The Austrian company Wojnar's, specialized in producing appetizers and gourmet foods, announced the recall of a large number of its products from the market after internal quality tests revealed the presence of Salmonella bacteria in Tahin (tahini) used in the production of several types of its hummus.

The recall included items sold under well-known brands such as Billa, SPAR, Habibi & Hawara, Clever, and Wojnar's itself. The affected products include but are not limited to: Billa Bali Brunch such as “Wanna Date Me?” and “Oriental Feel Good Bowl” Billa Immer Gut such as “Hummus Avocado” and “Hummus Trio” Habibi & Hawara in its various types such as “Hummus Harissa” and “Hummus Mango Curry” SPAR products such as “Veggie Hummus XXL” and “Veggie Bowl mit Falafel” and Wojnar's Hummus Natur.

The company clarified that consuming food contaminated with salmonella can cause symptoms including diarrhea, abdominal pain, occasional vomiting, and a slight fever. Symptoms usually resolve within a few days, but it is advised to consult a doctor if they persist or worsen.

The products were temporarily available at several major distributor branches in Austria such as Kröswang, Wedl, Kastner, Transgourmet, Eurogast, nöm Gast, and Julius Kiennast. Damaged products can be returned at the mentioned branches even without presenting the purchase receipt, and the full price will be refunded.

It is mentioned that on Tuesday, the recall was expanded to include 19 additional products, and the company urged consumers not to consume these products, expressing its deep regret for what happened and offering an official apology to customers.
