Urgent call from the President of AMS Vienna to the youth
Despite the slowdown in the rise of unemployment in Vienna, the head of the AMS office in Vienna, Winfried Göschel, does not expect the number of unemployed to decrease in 2025. The number of registered unemployed in May increased by 6.1% compared to the previous year, reaching 119,136 people. The number of participants in AMS training programs also increased by 0.8% to 37,635 people, making the total registered in both categories 4.8% higher.
Ghosh confirmed that the unemployment rate increase in May is the lowest in nearly two years, noting that a decrease in the number of unemployed will not be achieved this year, but he expects a slowdown in the rate of increase.
The group of people over 50 years old witnessed an increase of 5.4%, while the unemployment rate for those under 25 years old rose by 6.3%.
In this context, Goschel made an urgent appeal to young people planning to start vocational training in the fall: "Please go to AMS now! Every week of delay reduces the chance of getting a good training place."
AMS Vienna provides assistance in finding a suitable training company or a temporary alternative through unconventional vocational training. An appointment can be made at the U25 center – a joint center between AMS Vienna and the city municipality – by calling 050 904 940. On the other hand, data revealed a decrease in unemployment in the construction sector by 2.4% in May, while it increased in the goods production and trade sectors by 8.2%, and in hotels and restaurants by 6.6%.
