First cool, then summer: weather turns up for the new week

After a stretch of unusually cool weather, Germany is preparing for a dramatic warm-up as summer conditions return across much of the country. Temperatures could reach 30°C as early as Sunday in some regions.

Meteorologists say a strong high-pressure system is developing over Western Europe, allowing much warmer air to flow into Germany from southwestern parts of the continent. The shift is expected to become noticeable over the weekend and strengthen at the start of next week.

On Sunday, temperatures are forecast to rise significantly. Northern Germany is expected to see highs between 20°C and 25°C, while many southern areas could experience temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C. The warmer conditions mark a sharp contrast to the recent period of cooler weather.

The hottest conditions are expected in southern and southwestern Germany. Areas along the Rhine River and parts of Franconia (Franken) could see temperatures climbing well above 30°C. Many other regions are also likely to enjoy dry, sunny, and comfortably warm weather.

The developing high-pressure system is expected to bring several consecutive days of sunshine and stable conditions. While isolated showers or thunderstorms may briefly occur on Wednesday, weather forecasts indicate that warm and dry weather should quickly return afterward.

Looking further ahead, medium-range forecasts continue to support a classic summer weather pattern. If the high-pressure system remains positioned over Germany or slightly to the east, warm air from the southwest will continue to dominate, keeping conditions largely dry and sunny.

Longer-term outlooks also suggest that the summer season could remain hotter and drier than average. However, meteorologists caution that the risk of thunderstorms may increase later in the season as temperatures continue to rise.

The latest forecasts indicate that Germany is entering a significantly warmer phase, with summer-like temperatures expected to persist throughout much of next week, especially across the south and southwest.
