A fake email under the name Sparkasse deceives customers

Sparkasse has issued an urgent warning to its customers after a dangerous fraudulent message bearing its name spread, putting millions of users at risk of significant financial losses. This new email comes under the title "TAN Registration Expiration," misleading users into believing they must reactivate the TAN service before June 12, 2025, or their access to online banking will be blocked.

The message asks the recipient to click on an attached button to perform a "reactivation". However, this is just a trap, as clicking the link leads to a fake page aimed at stealing personal data. The message uses an impersonal form of address such as "Dear Customer, Dear Client", which is unusual in official Sparkasse correspondence, which usually addresses customers by their names.

The fraudulent message is sent from a suspicious email address, contains a dangerous link, and includes time pressure to force victims to act quickly. These elements are all clear signs that it is a phishing attempt and are not used in official bank communications.

Anyone who responds to this message and enters their banking information puts themselves at great risk, as scammers can access their bank account, make financial transfers, and possibly steal all their money.

The Verbraucherzentrale advises customers not to interact with such messages at all, but to delete them immediately or move them to the spam folder. It is also always advisable to check the official Sparkasse website to see if there are any warnings published about this type of fraud. In case of becoming a victim, one should immediately contact the bank and freeze all access data.
