No Clear Plan: Merz Questions US Approach in Iran Conflict

German Chancellor فريدريش ميرتس has ruled out any military involvement by Germany in the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, stating that Berlin will not participate despite maintaining strong ties with its allies.

Speaking before the Bundestag (German federal parliament), ميرتس emphasized that while Germany shares certain strategic goals with the US, it will openly express disagreements where interests differ. He underlined that Berlin values transparency in its alliances.

The chancellor criticized Washington’s handling of the conflict, saying there is still no convincing strategy for success in Iran. He also revealed that the US did not consult Germany before taking action and noted that Berlin would have advised against the current course.

ميرتس made it clear that Germany would not take part in military operations, including securing shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, during the ongoing conflict. However, he left the door open for future involvement under different circumstances.

Despite the اختلافات (differences), ميرتس stressed that transatlantic relations should not suffer because of the conflict. He added that Germany is prepared to contribute to a postwar peace order once hostilities come to an end.
