Help to stop a terrorist attack... and now he is threatened with deportation!
The sole witness to the horrific stabbing attack that took place in the Austrian city of Villach is facing the risk of deportation, despite his bravery in confronting the attacker and assisting the victims of the attack.
On February 15, the Kurdish witness was walking with his four-year-old son when a man attacked him with a knife. Despite sustaining minor injuries, he confronted the attacker and then rushed to assist one of the victims who was seriously injured, stopping the bleeding and calming the victim, before the assailant returned to attack him again. When the police arrived, the witness immediately recognized the assailant.
After a few weeks, the family was shocked when they were informed of their deportation decision due to not appealing the rejected asylum decision, after the witness refrained from going to the post office for fear of arrest. In a surprise operation, the police arrived at dawn to transport the family, but the trip was canceled due to his wife's advanced pregnancy. The man says: "We were then put on the street and had to arrange our return ourselves." The witness confirmed that he faces the risk of persecution in Turkey due to his Kurdish origins, his religious beliefs, and his refusal to circumcise his son, and that he is no longer allowed to practice his profession as a teacher there.
The deportation plans have sparked widespread criticism, including criticism from the renowned psychiatrist "Klaus Outomier", head of the "Aspis" organization, who emphasized the need to secure a safe residence for the family in the state of Kärnten, while also recognizing the father's significant humanitarian act.
For its part, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BFA) declined to comment on the case, but confirmed that it examines each case "carefully and objectively."
