Man arrested for creating fake pornographic images since 2021
The police in Gelderland arrested a 43-year-old man from Overbetuwe on suspicion of creating and distributing fake pornographic images using artificial intelligence of at least 130 women. The suspect is alleged to have generated fake pornographic images and shared them online.
According to the investigations, the suspect posted these images in various groups on WhatsApp, and also sent fake pornographic images, sexual messages, and unsolicited pictures of his genitals directly to women. Victims from different areas in the Netherlands have filed complaints about being harassed.
Authorities believe the man has been active since at least 2021 or 2022. After his arrest, the police seized his computer and other electronic devices, which are currently being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Under Dutch law, the production or distribution of fake images with a pornographic or defamatory nature is a crime punishable by law. Social media companies can also be held responsible if they allow the spread of such harmful content, increasing pressure on platforms to prevent these violations.
This arrest comes just weeks after Dutch lawmakers endorsed a new bill aimed at strengthening individual rights against the misuse of artificial intelligence. The proposal grants citizens legal rights over their bodies, facial features, and voices, making it difficult for offenders to create and disseminate fake images or videos without consent.
