Is it time to change your car tires? Beware of these mistakes!
With the arrival of spring in Austria and the end of the mandatory winter equipment for cars starting from April 15, many may think it is time to switch from winter tires to summer tires. However, experts warn against rushing into this decision.
The tire expert at ÖAMTC (Austrian Automobile Club), Stefan Kirbl, explained that the crucial factor is not the official date, but the local weather conditions. April is known for its weather fluctuations, and in higher regions, temperatures remain low in the morning hours.
Kirbel advises against rushing to install summer tires, as the weather can change suddenly. He also pointed out that winter tires with a tread depth of only 4 mm should not be used in the next winter. However, in cold and dry conditions, they can continue to be used until the end of their lifespan.
With temperatures rising above 25 degrees Celsius, winter tires lose their grip on the road, making it necessary to switch to summer tires or Ganzjahresreifen (all-season tires).
All-season tires can be a practical choice for those who often drive in low-lying areas or cities and do not regularly encounter snow. However, the choice between different types of tires should take into account driving style and expected weather conditions.
