3 stabbings daily in Vienna... What are the nationalities of the attackers?
Austria has witnessed a record increase in the number of knife attacks, with an increase of nearly 25% since 2020, according to a response from Interior Minister Gerhard Karner of the ÖVP party to an inquiry from the FPÖ party.
In 2024 alone, 2,596 knife-related crimes were recorded in the country. The capital, Vienna, topped the list with 956 attacks, which is about three attacks per day. Among these cases, there were 177 armed robberies with a knife, 410 serious threats, 24 serious bodily injuries, and 8 murders.
The Secretary General of the FPÖ, Michael Schnedlitz, strongly criticized the performance of Minister Karner, considering that the security situation under his tenure is worsening, and described it as a "security threat."
What is also controversial is that among the 2,471 suspects, 1,386 of them – about 56% – were non-Austrians. It was found that most of them came from Morocco (415), Turkey (345), Tunisia (305), and Syria (164). Karner did not disclose whether any of these were deported.
