The deportation of refugees exceeds that of new arrivals in Bavaria

The state of Bayern witnessed a significant decrease in the number of asylum seekers during the first three months of this year, according to Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann. Only 3,570 people applied for asylum between January and March, compared to 7,573 in the same period of 2024, meaning the number has dropped to more than half.

Herrmann pointed out that the credit for this decline is partly due to the strengthening of border controls. He confirmed that this development encourages the government to continue taking measures aimed at permanently and significantly reducing immigration numbers.

It was also indicated that the number of asylum seekers who left Bayern during the same period exceeded the number of new arrivals. A total of 3,398 people left the state voluntarily, while 941 others were deported. Herrmann considered these figures as significant steps towards a real change in immigration policy.

He added that the state government will continue deportation operations without leniency. With the possibility of politician Alexander Dobrindt from the CSU party in Oberbayern taking the position of Minister of the Interior in the upcoming federal government formed by a black-red coalition, Herrmann expects this trend to continue.

He emphasized that regulating and organizing immigration in the long term is the only way to alleviate pressure on municipalities and ensure the community's ability to integrate newcomers.
