Austrian police deal a major blow to the Syrian youth gang "505"

Austrian authorities have managed to deal a significant blow to the famous Syrian youth group known as "505", which has been linked to numerous violent incidents since 2024. In a coordinated operation in Graz and Vienna, several suspects were identified and arrested, marking an important step in curbing the group's criminal activities.

On September 4, the Graz city police, in cooperation with the Graz public prosecutor's office and supported by special units, riot units, police dog patrols, and immigration officers, carried out several simultaneous raids. Out of ten arrest warrants issued by the court, nine were successfully executed. Four suspects were detained in Graz, while two others were arrested at the main train station in Vienna.

The accused, mostly Syrians aged between 17 and 20, face charges including intentional serious bodily harm, aggravated assault, robbery, serious threats, and coercion. They are also suspected of participating in a criminal organization known as "505," which has repeatedly engaged in gang-related violence in both Graz and Vienna.

Investigators revealed that the group operates in changing formations but usually in large numbers. The alleged crimes include joint attacks using sharp and blunt weapons, violent robbery, coercion including threats against minors, and organized criminal activity according to German criminal law. These crimes occurred between November 2024 and June 2025, primarily focusing on Graz.

Authorities continue to investigate the activities of the group and other potential members. The Public Prosecutor's Office in Graz confirmed, in close cooperation with the Criminal Investigation Department in Graz, that further arrests and legal actions are expected as the investigation progresses.
