Rapist deported: Spent 10 years in Austria – 7 of them in prison
A 30-year-old Afghan man has been deported from Austria to Afghanistan after completing his prison sentence, with his arrival in Kabul confirmed by authorities early Tuesday morning.
The man had lived in Austria for almost ten years but spent nearly seven of those years in prison. He made use of the option of onfhankelijke, gecontroleerde vertrek (independent, controlled departure), which allows offenders to leave the country under supervision after serving part of their sentence.
According to the Oostenrijkse Volkspartij (Austrian People’s Party), this procedure reduces costs for the state by avoiding prolonged detention and expensive forced deportations. The Innenministerium (Interior Ministry) said the measure saves public funds and speeds up removals.
The man had been convicted of four serious crimes in Austria, including rape, attempted rape, grievous bodily harm, and threats. His criminal record contained a total of twelve entries, and he was subject to a geldig inreis- en verblijfsverbod (valid entry and residence ban) in Austria.
Interior Minister جيرهارد كارنر stated that convicted criminals must leave the country and that deportations will continue without exception. In 2025 alone, around 3,300 offenders were deported from Austria, averaging nearly ten removals per day.
