A yellow alert has been issued in the Netherlands due to fog and icy roads
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a yellow warning for most parts of the Netherlands due to slippery roads and dense fog. Frozen wet road sections and fog are expected to make driving hazardous on Saturday morning.
According to KNMI, icy conditions are spreading from the northern provinces to the southern ones. Drivers should be aware that visibility in dense fog may drop below 200 meters, and patches of fog can appear suddenly, increasing the risks.
The institute advises exercising caution during morning commutes, as fog and icy roads may persist until late morning. Drivers should adjust their speed and maintain appropriate safety distances on affected roads.
The yellow alert currently includes all provinces except Zeeland, Brabant, and Limburg. The Wadden Islands are also not included in the warning.
Authorities recommend that residents check local traffic updates before traveling and avoid non-essential trips if conditions are severe. Properly preparing vehicles and being attentive while driving is essential to avoid accidents during this period of dangerous weather.
