The police find more than 300 kilograms of cocaine in frozen fish after an anonymous tip-off.
The police and customs discovered more than 300 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a shipment of frozen fish, following an anonymous tip that led to an urgent investigation.
The shipment, coming from Suriname and declared as food goods, was under inspection on Monday. Authorities reported that the alert warned of the possibility of the frozen fish containing drugs, prompting officers to trace the shipment to a company in Barneveld (a Dutch city).
The initial inspections of the container did not reveal any drugs. However, investigators noticed some impurities during additional inspections, raising suspicions about part of the shipment despite the clean results of the initial inspection.
Each fish was examined individually. During this manual inspection, officers discovered a strange substance inside many of the fish. The fish were then opened, revealing tightly sealed packages of cocaine hidden inside.
A total of 319 kilograms of cocaine have been recovered. The police confirmed that the company located in Barneveld does not appear to have any connection to the drugs. The cocaine has been destroyed, and the investigation is ongoing to identify those responsible for the smuggling operation.
