Defence Ministry Employee Arrested After Massive Cache of Army Gear Found at Home
A 31-year-old employee of the defence ministry has been arrested on suspicion of stealing military equipment from an airforce base, according to military police. The suspect was detained following an investigation into missing army supplies.
Authorities said a large quantity of military gear was discovered at the suspect’s home in Zwijndrecht. The seized items included weapons, helmets, tents, and other army equipment, along with a significant amount of cash found during the search operation.
The arrest is part of a broader investigation into repeated thefts from military bases. Investigators are now working to determine exactly which items were taken and whether all the equipment recovered from the house originally belonged to army stockpiles.
Officials have not yet determined what the suspect intended to do with the weapons and other military supplies. The ongoing inquiry aims to clarify whether the stolen gear was meant for resale, personal use, or other illegal activities.
According to a photographer present at the scene, the amount of confiscated property was so large that two police vans were not enough to transport everything seized during the raid. The investigation remains active as authorities continue examining the recovered equipment.
