The government plans to abolish child support Familienbeihilfe!
The Austrian government has announced new austerity measures that may affect social assistance for families, as part of efforts to close the budget deficit.
According to a report published by the program "Mittagsjournal", the government intends to suspend the annual adjustments to the amount of "family allowance" during the years 2026 and 2027. The ministry of the responsible minister Claudia Plakolm (ÖVP) has not yet confirmed these plans.
The recent legal proposals sent to Parliament revealed the termination of the adjustment of the "child allowance" amount, as part of efforts to control the budget.
The attached clarifications to the proposals indicated that the government aims, through this measure, to achieve financial stability in the medium term.
On the other hand, the government announced an increase in what is known as the "Pendler-Euro" — a financial support designated for employees who travel long distances to their workplaces — in compensation for the cancellation of the "climate bonus" that was previously offered.
