Cyberattack on hospitals in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district
The LUP clinics in northeastern Germany have become the target of a hacker attack. Several locations in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district are affected, including the clinics in Parchim and Hagenow. The hospitals' IT systems were massively disrupted by the attack, which is making daily workflows very difficult.
According to the district administration, the attack was discovered recently. To prevent the further spread of the malware, the affected systems were immediately disconnected from the internet. This means that doctors and nursing staff currently have no access to digital patient records and communication within the clinics is restricted.
Although the technology is not functioning as usual, medical care for patients remains guaranteed. The clinics emphasized that emergencies can still be treated. However, many tasks that are normally handled digitally must now be documented manually on paper, which can lead to delays in everyday hospital life.
IT security specialists and the police are already investigating the incident closely. They are examining how the perpetrators were able to penetrate the system and whether sensitive patient data was stolen. It is currently unclear when the computer systems will be fully and safely operational again.
