Geert Wilders apologizes after false claim about a suspect in the murder of Lisa
Geert Wilders, the leader of the PVV party, issued a rare retraction after making an incorrect statement during a parliamentary debate about the suspect in the murder of 17-year-old Lisa. Wilders said, "I shouldn't have said that," adding, "I'm sorry."
Earlier today, Wilders claimed that the suspect had been previously arrested on sexual charges and then released. However, the police quickly clarified that this claim is false.
And when confronted, Wilders admitted the mistake, saying: "It was a mistake. I thought I had read it, but when I checked again, I found out that I hadn't."
The Amsterdam police criticized his statement in a post on social media, emphasizing that his words "do not do justice to the work of the police and cause unnecessary concern for the parties involved and their relatives."
Wilders had used the issue during the debate to strengthen his argument against asylum seekers as the upcoming elections approached, but the incorrect statement sparked sharp criticism and heightened tensions in the already volatile political scene.
