The following federal state abolishes the state tax on ORF television

Styria will become the latest province in Austria to abolish the state fee for ORF, following Vienna and Lower Austria. Governor Mario Kunasek (FPÖ) announced on his Facebook page that the fees will be abolished starting in 2027, saving the residents of Styria about 30 million euros annually.

Currently, residents of Styria pay a monthly state tax of 4.70 euros plus a fee of 15.30 euros for ORF. Under the new plan, only the ORF fee of 15.30 euros will remain, effectively reducing the financial burden on families.

This step also means a reduction in the state budget by 30 million euros, as the current tax is collected as a "tax to promote culture and sports," and is allocated for specific purposes, according to reports from the Kleine Zeitung newspaper.

Other Austrian states have taken similar steps. Both Vienna and Lower Austria have abolished the state fees for ORF, while Salzburg and Burgenland still collect 4.50 euros, and Tyrol charges 3.10 euros per month.

The cancellation is expected to provide immediate financial relief to residents and reflects a growing trend among Austrian states to reduce or eliminate regional media fees while maintaining the national ORF fees.
