The mayor of the city is stabbed by her 17-year-old daughter.
A tragic incident shook the German city of Hemerich after newly elected mayor Iris Stalzer was stabbed near her home on Tuesday evening. Authorities confirmed that her 17-year-old daughter is the main suspect in the attack.
According to the police, Schtalzer's condition was critical at first but has now stabilized. Her two children, aged 15 and 17, called emergency services immediately after the incident. Initial reports suggested that several people attacked the mayor, but the police quickly ruled out this possibility after analyzing the evidence.
Investigations confirmed that the incident was not politically motivated, but rather resulted from a family dispute. Sources revealed to Die Welt that the stabbing was the result of an internal family conflict, noting that a similar incident occurred last summer when it was alleged that the same daughter attacked her mother with a knife.
German media reports indicate that Stalzer has adopted both her daughter and son, and that her 15-year-old son has been suffering from psychological issues for some time.
Schatzler, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), had won the position of mayor of Herdick just a week and a half ago, a small town located about 10 kilometers south of Dortmund with a population of around 22,500. She received 52.2% of the votes, in a victory that was supposed to be a bright start to her political career before it turned into a painful family tragedy.
