Family allowance is now in your account on a fixed monthly date!
Austrian Family Minister Claudia Plakolm from the ÖVP party announced that the family allowance "Familienbeihilfe" will now be paid on fixed dates every month, giving families more financial planning. The funds are expected to be deposited into bank accounts by the eighth day of each month, regardless of weekends or holidays.
This procedure includes bank transfers within the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), and it comes thanks to technological developments that allow for more reliable management of government assistance. Blackholm confirmed that the goal is to provide greater clarity and stability for families.
The scheduled payment dates for 2025 are: Friday, June 6 Tuesday, July 8 Friday, August 8 Monday, September 8 Wednesday, October 8 Friday, November 7 Friday, December 5
Family benefits have been provided in Austria since 1955 as compensation for the costs associated with raising children. Since 2015, the benefits are automatically granted a few days after the child's birth, and this happens automatically in 73% of cases.
Although the previous government (the coalition between the Turkish party and the Greens) decided to automatically adjust all social assistance according to inflation, the current government (composed of ÖVP, SPÖ, and Neos) decided to freeze this increase as part of an austerity package, meaning there will be no increase in family aid this year or in 2026.
Currently, the amount of the allowance is 138.40 euros from birth, increasing to 148 euros after the age of three, 171.80 euros after the age of ten, and 200.40 euros after the age of nineteen. There are also increases based on the number of siblings. An amount of 70.90 euros is added to the allowance for each child under the "Kinderabsetzbetrag".
