Smoking ban in a new German state – fine up to 6500 euros

It seems that smoking cigarettes in places like playgrounds or bus stops in the state of Baden-Württemberg will soon be strictly prohibited. The legislative body (Landtag) has decided to implement new measures to enhance the protection of non-smokers, and these laws will also include electronic cigarettes (E-cigarettes), vapes, and shishas.

These reforms have come into effect and are expected to be implemented within a few months. There will also be a possibility of imposing a fine of up to 6,500 euros. Smoking in southwestern Germany may soon become an expensive activity! Smoking will be banned in Baden-Württemberg in places where many children and teenagers are present, such as playgrounds, bus and tram stops, public swimming pools, zoos, and amusement parks. Smoking areas will completely disappear in schoolyards, and smoking rooms in government offices will be closed. Those who think that using e-cigarettes will allow them to smoke will be disappointed.

The new laws include electronic cigarettes, vapes, and shisha, even in cases where tobacco, nicotine, or cannabis is not consumed. The reason for this is that burning, vaporizing, or heating substances can produce harmful materials to health. However, there are some relaxations for smokers, as the known exceptions for restaurants and cafes will remain in effect, meaning that smoking is allowed in outdoor areas.

Fines up to 6500 euros In large restaurants and nightclubs, there will still be designated smoking areas, but these areas must be clearly defined at the entrance and only adults should be allowed to enter. Those who do not comply with the new laws will need to pay financial penalties. The fine for the first offense can reach 200 euros, and if the offense is repeated within a year, the fine can reach 500 euros. Operators who violate the laws may face fines of up to 3330 euros, and in case of repetition, the fine can reach 6500 euros.

For smokers in Baden-Württemberg, they either have to look for suitable places or pay a fine, as they must adapt to the new laws to avoid a costly financial shock.
