Urgent recall of 33,000 Citroën cars in the Netherlands!
Stellantis has urged more than 33,000 Citroën car owners in the Netherlands to immediately stop driving their vehicles due to a serious airbag defect that could pose a risk to their lives. The decision came after a tragic incident in France last week, where a woman died from injuries sustained due to a faulty airbag.
The recall includes Citroën C3 and DS3 models manufactured between 2009 and 2019, equipped with airbags produced by the Japanese company Takata. The company has begun notifying owners and requested them to contact dealers for free repairs.
Takata airbags represent a global problem, with millions of cars recalled since 2014. The company declared bankruptcy in 2017 after it was proven that the airbags could explode due to a manufacturing defect, leading to metal shrapnel flying inside the car and causing fatalities in several countries.
A similar recall campaign for these models was carried out in the Netherlands last January, and some drivers made the repairs. However, Stellantis did not see the need to issue a stop driving notice at that time.
The recall in the Netherlands was delayed compared to other countries, as priority was given to countries with hot and humid climates due to the increased likelihood of airbag issues there, according to the company.
