New Dutch Foreign Minister Takes Firm Stand During Ukraine Visit

The Netherlands has stated there is no indication that Russia is willing to engage in genuine peace negotiations with Ukraine, as tensions remain high amid the ongoing conflict.

During a visit to Kyiv, Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen (توم بيريندسن) made the remarks at a joint press conference with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha (أندري سيبيها). He emphasized that despite Ukraine’s willingness to pursue lasting peace, Russia has shown no credible intention to negotiate in good faith.

Berendsen stated that Russia is responsible for initiating the war and has the power to end it, but continues to prioritize military action over diplomacy. He reaffirmed that Ukraine’s future should not be determined by external forces and belongs within the broader European community.

The Dutch minister also highlighted Ukraine’s ongoing reform efforts, noting progress despite the challenges of war. He reiterated that continued international support remains essential to ensuring stability and long-term peace in the region.

The visit marks the first official trip to Ukraine for Berendsen since taking office, alongside Defense Minister Dilan Yesilgoz-Zegerius (ديلان يشيلغوز-زيغيريوس), signaling the Netherlands’ ongoing political and strategic commitment to Ukraine.
