Russian border guards have left "Zvartnots" airport

On Wednesday, Russia completed the withdrawal of its border guards from Yerevan's "Zvartnots" International Airport. This process began months ago when the Armenian authorities officially requested the Russian side to leave the airport. From now on, border control at the airport will be carried out only by Armenian specialists.

Russian border guards had been serving at "Zvartnots" since 1992. For decades, they helped the Armenian side control the country's air border. However, recently the Armenian government announced that Armenian border troops already have sufficient experience and skills to work independently.

An official ceremony was held at the airport on the occasion of the withdrawal. Representatives of the border services of both countries were present at the event. The Armenian side thanked their Russian colleagues for many years of cooperation and exchange of experience. A corresponding protocol was signed, by which the service was officially transferred to Armenia.

This change is an important step for Armenia on the way to establishing full control over its own borders. Although Russian border guards have left the airport, they still continue to serve on Armenia's borders with Turkey and Iran. This event reflects current developments in relations between Armenia and Russia.
