Russia has completed the withdrawal of border guards from Zvartnots Airport
Russia on Wednesday completed the withdrawal of its border guards from Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport. Armenia had requested this step earlier. Official sources reported the information.
At Zvartnots Airport, Russian border guards had participated in border control operations for many years. However, during this year, the Armenian side had decided that this function at the airport should be carried out only by the relevant Armenian services.
The withdrawal process was completed on Wednesday. Thus, Russian border guards will no longer serve at the airport. The change concerns the organization of border control at the airport and means that this work will now pass entirely to Armenian structures.
This development is taking place at an important stage in relations between Armenia and Russia. The issue has been in the spotlight in recent months, as it is connected with questions of security, state control, and bilateral cooperation.
