Russian Border Guards Officially Withdraw from Zvartnots Airport

On Wednesday, Russia completed the withdrawal of its border guards from Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport. This process took place at the request of the Armenian authorities, which was presented earlier this year.

The Armenian government had approached the Russian side, requesting the termination of their service at the airport. Russian border guards had been working at Zvartnots for many years, assisting the Armenian side in conducting border control.

From now on, control at all airport checkpoints will be carried out exclusively by Armenia's border guard troops. Armenian officials stated that the country now possesses sufficient experience and the necessary capabilities to perform this work independently.

This change is a significant step for Armenia. It demonstrates the country's desire for greater independence and control over its strategically important locations.

Despite leaving Zvartnots, Russian border guards continue their service in other parts of Armenia. They guard Armenia's state borders with Turkey and Iran. However, their presence at the capital's airport has now officially come to an end.
