Armenia's Foreign Relations and Regional Developments
The United States has stated that Russia has turned its back on Armenia. Washington is now actively trying to reduce Armenia's dependence on Russia and strengthen bilateral relations with the Armenian side.
Against the backdrop of these processes, Russia officially completed the withdrawal of its border guards from Yerevan's "Zvartnots" International Airport on Wednesday. This step was taken at the request of the Armenian authorities, which was presented earlier this year.
Regarding regional peace, European Commission President Charles Michel is calling on Yerevan and Baku to stop "games" and finalize the peace treaty. Michel has held meetings with the leaders of both countries in an attempt to accelerate the process.
At the same time, the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey met to discuss the normalization of relations. The parties considered the possibility of reopening the railway connection, which could be an important step for economic cooperation.
The Artsakh issue remains on the international agenda. The Human Rights Union of Nagorno-Karabakh has sent letters to the Pope and UNESCO, requesting help for the return of Artsakh Armenians and the protection of Armenian cultural heritage. On the other hand, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) has strongly criticized the Biden administration for pursuing an inadequate policy regarding the Artsakh issue.
In the cultural sphere, the Armenian-American Museum of California presents the world premiere of the "Hope Rising" project, which celebrates Armenian dance and music. Also mentioned are the famous 1996 words of 13-year-old Maral Melkonian, "I am ready to fight for Armenia," which continue to inspire young activists today.
