Changes in Armenia's Foreign Policy and Important Community Events
Armenia's foreign policy is at the center of today's news. The United States has announced that Russia has "turned its back" on Armenia. For this reason, Washington is working to reduce Armenia's dependence on Russia and strengthen ties with the West.
An important event has also taken place in Yerevan. Russia has officially completed the withdrawal of its border guards from Zvartnots International Airport. This step was taken at the request of the Armenian authorities, who wish to independently control the country's main air gateway.
Regarding regional peace, European Council President Charles Michel has called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to stop "games" and finalize the peace treaty. At the same time, representatives of Armenia and Turkey met to discuss the reopening of the railway connection and the process of normalizing relations.
Organizations dealing with the Artsakh issue continue their work on the international stage. The Human Rights Union of Nagorno-Karabakh has sent letters to the Pope and UNESCO, asking to protect Armenian cultural heritage and ensure the return of the people. However, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) has strongly criticized the Biden administration for pursuing an insufficient policy regarding the Artsakh issue.
In the cultural sphere, the Armenian-American Museum of California is presenting the world premiere of the "Hope Rising" project, dedicated to Armenian dance and music. Also mentioned is the powerful 1996 message of 13-year-old Maral Melkonian, "I am ready to fight for Armenia," which continues to inspire new generations to this day.
