Russian border guards officially complete their work at Zvartnots Airport
On Wednesday, Russia officially completed the withdrawal of its border guards from Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport. This process began at the request of the Armenian authorities, which was submitted earlier this year.
For decades, Russian border guards, together with their Armenian counterparts, controlled Armenia's air gate. Now, all responsibility for airport security and passport control will be assumed by the officers of the Armenian Border Guard Service.
The Armenian government noted that the country already has sufficient experience and capabilities to carry out border control independently. The Russian side agreed to this decision, and the troops left the airport territory within the set timeframe.
This event is an important step for Armenia in managing its own borders. Despite this change, Russian border guards still continue to serve at other border points in Armenia, for example, on the borders with Turkey and Iran.
