US Accuses Russia of Turning Its Back on Armenia
The United States has stated that Russia has "turned its back" on Armenia and failed to fulfill its allied obligations. In Washington's view, Moscow is no longer a reliable partner for Yerevan, which necessitates a reassessment of regional relations.
US officials note that Russia's actions, or lack thereof, demonstrate that it did not support Armenia at critical moments. This became particularly evident during the conflicts of recent years, when Armenia was expecting assistance from its strategic ally.
In this situation, Washington has announced its goal to reduce Armenia's dependence on Russia. The US wants to help Armenia diversify its foreign policy, economy, and security sector so that the country can be more independent of Moscow's decisions.
The Armenian government has also begun to cooperate more actively with Western countries. In recent months, high-level meetings with European and American partners have increased. This creates new opportunities for the country's development and for finding new allies.
Despite these changes, Russia still maintains significant influence over Armenia's economy and energy sectors. However, the growing cooperation between Washington and Yerevan shows that the balance of power in the South Caucasus has begun to shift.
