Russian border guards have officially left "Zvartnots" Airport

On Wednesday, Russia completed the withdrawal of its border guards from Yerevan's "Zvartnots" International Airport. This process took place at the request of the Armenian authorities, which was submitted earlier this year. This is a significant change, as Russian border guards have been present at the airport for decades.

For many years, Russian border guards, together with their Armenian colleagues, monitored the airport's border checkpoints. Now, the Armenian side will fully assume these responsibilities. The Armenian government has stated that the country already has sufficient experience and technical capabilities to monitor the border on its own.

This decision is an important step for Armenia. The Russian side noted that it respects Yerevan's decision and has completed all necessary work to transfer border control to Armenian specialists. The departure of the border guards took place after an official ceremony with the participation of representatives from both countries.

Despite leaving "Zvartnots," Russian border guards still continue their service in other parts of Armenia, particularly on the borders with Turkey and Iran. Nevertheless, the change in control at the airport marks a new phase in Armenian-Russian relations and emphasizes the strengthening of Armenia's sovereignty.
