Russia completed the withdrawal of border guards from Zvartnots Airport
Russia on Wednesday completed the withdrawal of its border guards from Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport. This step had been initiated earlier this year at Armenia’s request. The information was reported by official sources.
Russian border guards had been serving at Zvartnots Airport for many years. However, Armenia’s authorities had announced during this year that they wanted the airport’s border control to be carried out entirely by Armenian services.
The completion of the withdrawal means that border guard functions at the airport will now pass to Armenia’s relevant authorities. This change concerns the organization of security and border supervision at the international airport.
The issue has been one of the discussed topics in Armenian-Russian relations in recent months. At the same time, official statements only noted that the process had been completed and that the Russian border guards had left the airport.
Thus, a new phase of work is beginning at Zvartnots Airport, where border control will be carried out by the Armenian side.
