Russian border guards have left "Zvartnots" airport
On Wednesday, Russia completed the withdrawal of its border guard troops from Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport. This process took place at the request of the Armenian authorities, which was presented earlier this year.
For decades, Russian border guards, together with their Armenian counterparts, carried out passport control at the airport. The Armenian government decided that the country's border guard service already has sufficient experience and capabilities to perform this work independently.
The completion of the withdrawal process was marked by an official ceremony. Representatives of both countries signed the relevant documents, confirming the full transfer of powers to the Armenian side. The Russian side expressed gratitude for the long-term cooperation.
From now on, border control at Zvartnots airport will be carried out only by Armenian border guards. This change is seen as an important step toward strengthening the country's sovereignty and controlling its own infrastructure.
