Russian border guards have left "Zvartnots" airport
On Wednesday, Russia completed the withdrawal of its border troops from Yerevan's "Zvartnots" International Airport. This process began at the request of the Armenian authorities, which was presented earlier this year.
For decades, Russian border guards, together with their Armenian colleagues, carried out passport control at the airport. Now, all these functions will be performed solely by employees of the Armenian Border Guard Service.
The Armenian government noted that the country already has sufficient experience and capabilities to control its own borders independently. This decision is considered an important step toward strengthening Armenia's sovereignty.
The process concluded with an official ceremony and within the established timeframe. Although Russian border guards have left the airport, they continue to serve at other border sections of Armenia, such as the borders with Turkey and Iran.
