Russian border guards have left Zvartnots Airport
On Wednesday, Russia completed the withdrawal of its border guards from Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport. This process took place at the request of the Armenian authorities, which was presented earlier this year.
For decades, Russian border guards worked alongside Armenian specialists at the airport's checkpoints. They helped control passenger flow and ensure security. However, Armenia has now decided that it can perform these functions independently.
The Armenian government has stated that the country's border guard service has sufficient experience and technical means to continue the work. The Russian side respected this decision and completed its mission at the airport on time.
This change is seen as an important step toward strengthening Armenia's sovereignty. Although Russian border guards have left Zvartnots, they still continue to serve on other border sections of Armenia, for example, on the borders with Turkey and Iran.
