New Electric Vehicle Charger Installed on Power Pole in Melbourne
A new electric vehicle (EV) charging station has officially opened in Cheltenham, a suburb in Melbourne. The charger is located on Brixton Road and is the first of its kind in the Bayside Council area.
This project uses a unique design where the charger is attached directly to an existing power pole. By using current infrastructure, the council can install these chargers more quickly and at a lower cost than building new, standalone stations.
This initiative is part of a growing effort across Australia to support the increasing number of electric vehicle drivers. As more Australians switch to EVs, local councils are looking for practical ways to provide charging access for people who do not have a private garage or driveway to charge their cars at home.
This installation serves as a pilot program for the Bayside Council. If the new charger is successful and frequently used by the local community, the council may consider installing similar units in other parts of the region to help improve the city's EV infrastructure.
