Former NSW Premier questioned at corruption inquiry
Former New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet appeared before the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) this week. The inquiry focused on questions regarding his wife’s employment and her salary during his time in office.
During the hearing, Mr. Perrottet was asked about a $150,000 payment his wife received for a role described as 'flexible' work. The former Premier defended the payment, telling the commission that he did not consider the amount to be a 'significant' sum of money in the context of the position.
The ICAC is currently investigating allegations of potential misconduct and conflicts of interest within the state government. Lawyers at the hearing questioned Mr. Perrottet closely about whether he had declared his wife's professional activities correctly while he served as the leader of the state.
Mr. Perrottet maintained that he acted appropriately throughout his time as Premier. He stated that he had followed all necessary rules and protocols regarding transparency and the disclosure of family financial interests.
The commission’s investigation is expected to continue as officials examine further evidence. The findings of the ICAC will be released to the public once the inquiry concludes its work.
