Farewell in Vienna: Belgian Ambassador moves to the Vatican
There is a personnel change in the Viennese diplomatic world. Belgian Ambassador Caroline Vermeulen is leaving her post in the Austrian capital after two years. She had been serving as Belgium's representative in Vienna since August 10, 2022.
The diplomat is now moving on to the Vatican to take on a new role there. During her time in Austria, she actively helped shape and maintain diplomatic relations between Vienna and Brussels.
Caroline Vermeulen's departure marks the end of a two-year tenure, during which she established numerous contacts within Austrian politics and society. Such changes are common in international diplomacy as a way to provide new impetus to bilateral relations.
It has not yet been officially announced who will succeed Vermeulen at the Belgian Embassy in Vienna. However, the diplomatic mission remains an important anchor for cooperation between Austria and Belgium.
