Healthcare reform in Austria: Negotiations remain difficult
For almost a year, the federal government and the Austrian states have been working on a fundamental reform of the healthcare system. The goal of the so-called "reform partnership" is to improve medical care for everyone in Austria and to make it more efficient. So far, however, there is no agreement between the parties involved.
The negotiations are proving to be extremely complex. A central point of contention is the financing of the reform. While the federal government is calling for clear guidelines regarding the structure of hospitals and cooperation between the various medical sectors, the states are emphasizing their own responsibility and the specific needs of their regions.
