Drug ring broken up in Tyrol: Over 40 kilos of narcotics seized
Police in Kufstein, Tirol, have dismantled a suspected drug trafficking network accused of smuggling and distributing large quantities of cocaine and cannabis in Austria since at least early 2025. Several suspects have been arrested.
Investigators from the Kufstein Police Inspectorate uncovered what authorities describe as a criminal organization primarily operating around Kufstein. The core group allegedly consisted of five people: three Austrian men aged 22, 23 and 23, a 23-year-old Romanian man and a 22-year-old German woman.
According to police, the group allegedly smuggled cocaine and cannabis herb into Austria through the Kiefersfelden border crossing before distributing the drugs locally. The five suspects were arrested in April 2026 on orders from the Innsbruck Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Searches of their homes uncovered electronic evidence, assets, around 500 grams of cocaine, 420 grams of cannabis herb and approximately 180 grams of cannabis resin. Several weapons, including firearms, were also seized. The three Austrian suspects were taken to the Innsbruck prison, while the Romanian and German suspects were reported to prosecutors without being held in custody.
The investigation then led police to four additional alleged participants. The suspects included three Austrians aged 21, 26 and 29, as well as a 28-year-old Bosnian man. Investigators believe they acted as intermediaries in the drug operation. Searches linked to the four men produced further evidence, including around 70 grams of cocaine and smaller quantities of cannabis.
Three of the four—two Austrian men aged 21 and 29 and the Bosnian suspect—were taken to the Innsbruck prison. The 26-year-old Austrian suspect is facing charges while remaining at liberty.
Police estimate that the suspected network distributed almost 2 kilograms of cocaine and around 39 kilograms of cannabis herb in the Kufstein area since at least the beginning of 2025. The combined amount exceeds 40 kilograms of illegal drugs, highlighting the scale of the alleged operation.
