From May 2027: Direct flight from Vienna to Philadelphia
Starting May 6, 2027, travelers will be able to fly directly from Vienna to Philadelphia. American Airlines will launch the new seasonal route, giving passengers a nonstop connection between Austria and one of the largest cities on the US East Coast.
The new service will operate from Flughafen Wien (Vienna Airport) using the modern Airbus A321XLR. The airline plans to offer a daily long-haul flight, expanding Vienna’s network of direct connections to the United States.
The flight will leave Vienna at 11:40 a.m. and arrive in Philadelphia at 3:55 p.m. The return flight is scheduled to depart Philadelphia at 6:50 p.m. and reach Vienna at 10:05 a.m. the following day.
The route will operate seasonally, with additional service planned around the Christmas holidays. Philadelphia’s position as a major aviation hub will also allow passengers to connect onward to destinations across the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
For Flughafen Wien, the new connection represents a further expansion of its long-haul network. North America is considered an important growth market for Vienna and Austrian tourism, while the new route is expected to strengthen travel and business links between Austria and the United States.
Philadelphia itself is one of the United States’ most historically significant cities. Known for landmarks including the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, it is also a major center for business, research, education, culture and tourism.
American Airlines, one of the world’s largest airlines, operates thousands of flights each day to more than 350 destinations across over 60 countries. The airline is also a founding member of the oneworld alliance, whose network covers more than 900 destinations worldwide.
