New sources of revenue for the EU: Study proposes taxes for millionaires
The European Union is currently looking for new ways to finance its budget. A recent study is now examining various possibilities for how the EU could generate more money in the future to support important projects.
A central proposal from the experts concerns the introduction of a special tax for millionaires. This measure is intended to help close the financial gap in European budgets while simultaneously ensuring greater fairness in the distribution of the tax burden.
In addition to the wealth tax, the study also discusses expanding the trade in CO2 certificates. Through stricter rules and higher prices for carbon dioxide emissions, companies could be encouraged to produce in a more environmentally friendly manner. At the same time, these certificates would bring additional revenue to the EU budget.
These plans are of particular importance for Austria, as the country, as an EU member, would be directly affected by new financing models. The Austrian government must now observe how these proposals could impact the national economy and taxpayers.
Whether these ideas will actually be implemented remains to be seen. The discussion about new sources of revenue is only just beginning, and reaching an agreement between the various EU member states will be crucial for the future.
