More Physical Activity: New Health Project for Cycling Clubs in Lower Austria

The Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) and the association Cycling Austria have launched a new project in Lower Austria. The goal of the initiative is to provide targeted support to cycling clubs in the region and to promote the health of their members.

As part of this "club coaching," sports clubs will receive professional consultation. This focuses not only on athletic performance but, above all, on promoting health in everyday life. Experts will show the clubs how to make their offerings more attractive in order to inspire more people to take up cycling.

The project places a special focus on prevention. Through regular cycling, the aim is to avoid lifestyle-related diseases and strengthen the general well-being of the population. The collaboration between the health insurance fund and the sports association is intended to help firmly anchor physical activity within club structures.

Harald J. Mayer, President of Cycling Austria, emphasizes the importance of this cooperation. He views clubs as an important place where people of all ages can be active together. The coaching is intended to ensure that clubs function as health-oriented hubs within their communities.

The initiative is an important step toward further professionalizing cycling in Austria. If the project proves successful in Lower Austria, the model could be expanded to other federal states in the future.
