Wave of illness at Sporting Braga: Impact on the duel against Rapid Vienna
The Portuguese football club Sporting Braga is currently struggling with a severe wave of illness within the team. As the club announced in an official statement, a large number of players have been affected by a virus, which is massively restricting regular training and match operations.
The situation is so critical that the club currently only has three goalkeepers and seven outfield players available for duty. Due to this acute staff shortage, the club's management felt compelled to postpone the scheduled league match at short notice. The Portuguese league association has already approved this request.
This development is particularly significant for Austrian football fans, as Sporting Braga is set to face SK Rapid Vienna in the UEFA Europa League. It remains to be seen how the health situation among the Portuguese players develops in the coming days and whether all players will be fit in time for the international duel.
SK Rapid Vienna is monitoring the situation in Portugal closely. Whether the wave of illness will have an impact on the date or the proceedings of the match against the Viennese side remains unclear at this point. The officials of both clubs are in close contact with UEFA to decide on the further course of action.
