Inflation drops to 3.2% & record heatwave
Inflation in Austria has dropped noticeably, while a heatwave in June is setting new temperature records. Lower energy costs, in particular, are currently providing relief for households.
On average, consumers are paying a smaller markup for purchases and services than recently: the inflation rate fell to 3.2 percent in June, after it had been at 3.7 percent in May. According to a flash estimate by Statistics Austria (the national statistical office), this decline is primarily due to the easing of energy prices.
In addition to the financial relief, extreme weather is defining the month, as June breaks several previous temperature records. The ongoing heatwave is leading to exceptionally high temperatures across Austria.
