Red district leader insults SPÖ leader Babler
Tensions inside Vienna’s SPÖ have boiled over. A long-serving district chairman, often called a “red Bezirkskaiser” in local politics, has publicly lashed out at SPÖ federal leader Andreas Babler.

Babler, who was re-elected SPÖ leader with just over 80% at the last party congress, is currently under pressure. Recent surveys show the SPÖ slipping nationally, while the FPÖ is gaining ground even in Vienna, once considered an absolute SPÖ fortress.
The public attack highlights growing internal divisions. Several SPÖ officials have recently voiced criticism of Babler’s leadership style and political positioning. The party leadership has not yet issued a detailed response to the latest insults from the Vienna district chief.
