Salzburg now has a "state-of-the-art e-bike sharing system"
Salzburg has launched **S-Bike**, a fully electric and digital bike-sharing system designed to make getting around the city faster, easier and more climate-friendly. The first bikes are already available, with more arriving throughout the year.
Around 200 S-Bikes are initially available, while the full rollout will bring more than 600 electric bikes to 65 locations by the end of the year. Stations are being placed at major transport hubs, railway stations, university locations, the city center and along important routes.
The E-Bikes provide pedal assistance of up to 25 km/h and come with phone holders and transport baskets. Unlike traditional docked systems, the bikes do not have to be locked into individual stands. Instead, users leave them inside clearly marked S-Bike zones, meaning they can be returned even when no individual parking slot is available.
Renting a bike is handled through the **„Wegfinder“ app (ÖBB journey-planning app)**. Users can see each available bike on the map, including its battery level and estimated range. Payment can be added through a debit card, credit card, Apple Pay or PayPal, while a QR code is used to unlock the bike.
A standard S-Bike ride costs **€3 per 30 minutes**. However, holders of a **Klimaticket (climate/public transport pass)** get the first 30 minutes of every rental completely free. After that, additional half-hour periods cost €1.50. The maximum rental time is four hours.
There is also a launch promotion for everyone. By entering the code **“ILIKESBIKE”** in the Wegfinder app, users can test the system twice for 30 minutes at no charge. The promotion gives new riders a chance to try the service before paying for regular trips.
The S-Bike network is intended to solve the **“first and last mile”** problem for public transport, giving commuters, students and residents another way to reach destinations that are inconvenient to access by bus. Salzburg plans to eventually expand the network to as many as 100 locations, including additional stations in surrounding municipalities.
