Day of Parliamentary Research: Science meets politics in Vienna
On June 16, 2026, the annual "Day of Parliamentary Research" took place at the Austrian Parliament. The Parliamentary Directorate invited experts, scientists, and interested citizens to analyze and discuss current challenges facing democracy.
This year, the event focused on the fascinating interplay between emotion and reason in political work. Participants examined how rational decisions can be made in an environment often characterized by strong feelings and societal debates.
Various research projects were presented, demonstrating how the parliament as an institution responds to the needs of the population. The focus was primarily on how scientific findings can support the daily work of members of parliament in order to make well-founded decisions for Austria.
The event also provided a platform for direct exchange between research and politics. This collaboration aims to strengthen trust in democratic processes and further increase the transparency of parliamentary work.
The "Day of Parliamentary Research" underscores the importance of the parliament as a place of dialogue. The results of the discussions are now to be incorporated into the future work of the Parliamentary Directorate in order to further consolidate the connection between science and political practice.
