News for Travelers: Austrian Airlines and Sporting Adventures
There is currently a lot of news for travelers and fans of sporting events in Austria. In particular, the national airline Austrian Airlines (AUA) is at the center of attention with new destinations and attractive offers. However, major sporting events and international collaborations are also currently providing plenty of talking points in the country.
Austrian Airlines has expanded its offerings and is now flying twice a week to the North Macedonian city of Ohrid until the beginning of October. The flights take place every Thursday and Sunday. At the same time, there are important personnel changes at the top of the company: Till Streichert has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Supervisory Board. For budget-conscious travelers, the airline also offers a "Blind Booking" program. Passengers can book round-trip flights to surprise destinations within Europe starting from 99 euros.
There is also a lot of movement in the sports sector. A large fan group from Upper Austria, the "Red Hot Austrian Fans," is preparing for a long journey to the FIFA World Cup in the USA. Less positive was the news for fans of the Hungarian club Ferencváros Budapest: around 600 supporters were recently denied entry to Austria. Meanwhile, motorsport fans can already plan further into the future, as the schedule for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Spielberg for the year 2026 has already been set.
Various events are planned to further promote tourism and Austria's image abroad. In September 2026, "Austria Fever" will break out in Zurich to make the Austrian way of life better known in Switzerland. The travel industry itself is also networking more closely: the "Travel Innovation Salon" relies on new formats to better bring together experts from the tourism industry and develop innovative ideas for the future.
Whether it's new flight destinations, affordable travel offers, or major sporting events – there are many opportunities for Austrians to discover new things in the coming months and years. Current developments show that both people's desire to travel and the dynamics in the tourism industry remain very high.
